Stokes-Pak™ Coalescers
Stokes-Pak™ units are made from thin sheet metal plates, with a continuous series of crimps running along the length of the sheet metal strip. The strips are 8” nominal width. Sheets are stacked back to back so that the valleys touch each other and the peaks are opposite each other. Crimps can be ¼" high, ½" , ¾", or 1" high. Plates can be placed horizontally or vertically.
The Stokes-Pak™ units tend to foul less than Interceptor-Pak™ coalescer units, particles up to 100 microns in size will pass thru Stokes-Pak™ units. In a situation where there are a large amount of solids it is best to place the sheets vertical rather than horizontal, even though the efficiency is not as good. We recommend using dual filters upstream of the coalescers where there are a large amount of solid particles
To calculate the volume required to capture 0.999 of particle droplet size (within the 30-60 minimum range), we use the following formula:

Vc = (C1) Q h µ (2)
(ΔS.G.) d2
Where:
- VC = Coalescer volume, cubic feet
- C1 = 164 for Plate-Pak™ units with horizontal sheets
219 for Stokes-Pak™ units with horizontal sheets
312 for Stokes-Pak™ units with vertical sheets - Q = Liquid/liquid emulsion flow, US GPM
- h = Corrugated plate spacing or structured packing crimp height, inches
- d = Minimum droplet diameter, microns
- µ = Continuous phase viscosity, centipoise
Because of their light weight Stokes-Pak™ units are easier to install and are less expensive than the Plate-Pak™ coalescer units.
